Ranthambhore National Park

Safari Zone 10

Quick Identification

One of Ranthambhore's largest safari zones, characterised by dry deciduous forests, rugged hills, secluded valleys and numerous water sources.

Where to Look

The safari begins near Bodal Village and passes through Boring Talai, where sambar herds are commonly seen. Halonda Forest Chowki and the valleys around Kailashpuri are productive tiger habitats. The rocky hills and escarpments are good areas to search for leopards and sloth bears.

Tigress Territories

This zone is regularly used by two tigresses—one around Halonda Forest Chowki and another in the Antri region.

Best Time to See

Summer is particularly rewarding for tiger sightings around water sources and for birdwatching. March and April offer spectacular views of Palash (Butea monosperma) in flower. Early mornings and late afternoons are generally best for wildlife activity.

Behaviour to Watch

Tigers use the secluded valleys and water sources regularly, while leopards and sloth bears favour the rugged hills and rocky terrain. Watch for interesting predator interactions, including leopards taking refuge in trees when tigers are nearby.

Interesting Fact

Near Bhaironji, an old royal hunting hide survives from the princely era, providing a reminder of Ranthambhore's transformation from a former hunting landscape into a major tiger reserve. Nearby temples dedicated to Bhaironji and Balaji continue to attract pilgrims.
