Mugger Crocodile Basking At Padam Talab, Zone 1

A large mugger crocodile (Crocodylus palustris) was seen basking on lakeside rocks at Padam Talab, Zone 1 during the morning safari circuit — a routine but always impressive sighting in Ranthambore's most iconic lake setting.

Padam Talab is the largest lake in the park's core area and a magnet for wildlife during the hot months (April–June) when water elsewhere dries up. Mugger crocodiles — some exceeding 3 metres — share the banks with sambars, chitals, and occasionally tigers coming to drink. Zone 1 enters through the Sawai Madhopur gate and is among the most in-demand zones; morning light on the lake is exceptional for photography.
